Steven P. King, marine surveyor, is Director of East Coast and Great Lakes Operations for North American Marine Consultants. In this capacity, King is responsible for conducting vessel, structure, facility and cargo surveys, insurance assessments and monitoring new construction, conversion and repair processes for our clients, primarily in those two regions as well as worldwide. King also will assist the management team at North American Marine Consultants, LLC to further develop and grow business on the eastern seaboard area of North American and the Great Lakes region.


King has worked in the marine industry since graduating from the Maine Maritime Academy in 1994 with a Bachelor of Science in Nautical Science. He also has a Master of Arts in Transportation and Logistics Management from the American Military University and is a candidate for a Master of Science in Construction Management at the South Dakota School of Mines and Technology.


Prior to joining the team at North American Marine Consultants, King was employed as a marine surveyor and consultant for Merrill Marine Services, Inc. throughout the United States and worldwide. Steven also gained significant marine industry experience working for the following organizations:


  • Mormac Marine Group, Inc.— Marine Engineers’ Beneficial Association, District No. 1, South Boston, MA as Third Officer on the MV Cape Taylor
  • Technical Maritime Associates, Inc, Metairie, LA as marine surveyor
  • Transocean, Houston, TX and Macae’, Brazil as Third Officer—Assistant Dynamic Positioning System Operator on the Drill Ship DeepWater Frontier.
  • P&O Ports New England, Inc, South Boston, MA as Vessel Superintendent where he managed the unionized labor force in vessel loading and unloading.

In addition to his education and years of experience in the marine industry, Steven holds licenses and certificates with the following maritime organizations:

  • United States Coast Guard License—U.S. Merchant Marine Officer—Third Mate of Steam or Motor Vessels of any gross tons; Radar Observer (unlimited)
  • Quality Maritime Training, LLC (certificate) — U. S. Coast Guard Approved Training Course—Radar Observer (unlimited) Recertification
  • United States of America Certificate—Standards of Training, Certification and Watchkeeping for Seafarers—Officer in Charge of a Navigational Watch (Third Mate) and Rating Forming Part of a Navigational Watch (Able Seaman—Unlimited)
  • Marine Safety Consultants/Tidewater School of Navigation, Inc.—U.S. Coast Guard—Flashing Light Signaling Certificate
